Sanctuary
When I heard that Amanda Tapping was going to be in a new show I was kind of excited. For those who don't know, Amanda Tapping played Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter in Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis (Although in SGA she had risen to the rank of Colonel). Well, I watched the first episode of Sanctuary and thought it was alright, I never judge a show by its first episode anyways. I didn't really like the plot too well and Tapping's character was a little disappointing. Also, the creatures they have in their sanctuary, which the show is named for, were disappointing. The episodes just got worse and I can officially declare Sanctuary as... LAME! Oh well, Fringe is good and SGA is still on for a while, so I can't complain for a lack of shows to watch. There's also some good shows like Psych and Chuck on. All in all, it seems to be a pretty good year for television in general, which is good because there has been a lack of good shows the past couple of years.
Fringe
There's a new show I've been watching recently called Fringe. It's kind of a sci-fi/drama I guess. It's pretty awesome though. Anyone who hasn't already should check it out. It's on FOX on Tuesdays at 9/8c. It's rated TV-14 and has some pretty intense scenes, not to mention some disturbing images. Just a warning for those with a weak stomach.

Good science fiction is hard to come by

It's true, the movie and television industry is inundated with bad, tasteless, and outright terrible science fiction. It is sometimes hard to pick through them all to find the good ones but anyone who considers themselves a sci-fi fan knows that when you find one of those gems it all becomes worth the effort (and wasted hours). For example, I recently discovered the series Firefly. I had never even heard of it before, but was soon completely engrossed in its amazing plot and well developed characters, even though there are only 14 episodes.
Getting to my point, I feel like I should mention Babylon 5. Babylon 5 is, in my mind, the epitome of everything that is good about science fiction. A meaningful and engaging story, an original idea, and interesting and diverse characters. It also has the best looking make-up jobs in any show I've seen. Anyone who considers themselves a scif-fi fan must, I'll repeat that, MUST!... watch this show. Although, if you are only in it for the action and the special effects, you may not want to bother. Not that there's anything wrong with that (Seinfeld reference intended), besides being shallow and what-not, good action sequences and special effects add a lot to the enjoyability of a TV show or movie, but it can also be used to distract an audience away from a terrible plot or completely uninteresting characters... *COUGH...Star Wars...COUGH*. If you are willing to deal with some cheesy graphics and maybe some not-so-fantastic acting then you open yourself up to a lot of otherwise great shows. I have to admit, it does take a little effort to get past the graphics in Babylon 5, especially in the first 2 seasons, but the story and characters are what make it shine. The dialogue and relationships between the characters are just brilliant. So, go to Hulu.com and in the science fiction category you'll find this little gem. Watch it and be amazed, or just be a douche, whatever. I'm just kidding about the whole shallow and douche thing, really. If you just like things because their shiny and optically stimulating then that's cool. It's totally up to you.

Why do all the good ones have to die?
Let me start off with this... I love Stargate: Atlantis. I started watching it during season 3 and fell in love with it's great plots and characters. I also like Stargate: SG1, I mean, it was the original show and Jack O'Neill is one of the greatest characters ever created but I started off with SGA so I can't help but say I like it better. Anyways, SGA is being cancelled this season before it can fully develop it's plot and characters. There will either have to be a lot of stuff crammed into the remaining episodes or a lot of plot lines will have to be abandoned. Either way, it sucks. There's petitions and stuff to try and save it but I doubt anything will change it's fate.
Any fan of the series Firefly knows how horrible it is when a great plot and characters are suddenly left behind and fans left to yearn for more. Anyone who is a fan of sci-fi, and hasn't already, should definitely check out both Stargate series. Who knows, if SGA starts to get really good ratings maybe MGM will change their minds.
